Akaraka (The call of Destiny)

I visited a cinema yesterday and saw X-men. I was gripped till the movie was over. I had often wondered why we did not have our own version of super hero movies, animation, cartoons or comics. One rooted in the Nigerian culture and rich folklore such as Sango the god of thunder, Oya the goddess of lightening and Ogun the god of iron; there are lots more. But guess what, not long after that that movie; I had stumbled on this amazing online comic site called Akaraka. Akaraka is an online bingo weekly comic owned by Afrinolly. I t is written by the talented writer Okorafor Obi and really impressive art by Baba Maco and team.

Akaraka means Destiny in Igbo Language. The Journey will show how courage, friendship, trust and believing in yourself and your friends can get you through the most difficult situations and that no matter what people say or how hard you feel things are, with hard work and dedication, you can rewrite your fate and control your destiny. Ahmadioha, the head god, has declared war on demigods: the children borne of uncommon sexual affair between gods and humans. The demigods are unwanted by both humans and the gods, making their gifts a curse to them. But three demigods, Somto, Ebuka, and Awulika seek to change that fate. What caused the war? How will they escape? Are the gods right? Follow this tale of destiny, AKARAKA!!!
